An otherwise nondescript village of Wagah is where the millennia old (2500 km ) Grand Trunk Road intersects the more recent (2900km ) India - Pakistan border. Sunset time every day, soldiers from either side of the border perform the 'Beating Retreat ' ceremony.
A simple routine of lowering the respective national flags has over the years, developed itself as a major patriotic tourist attraction. Soldiers mimic each other ferociously, cheered by crowds resembling a stadium staging cricket match between the estranged neighbours.
